2 Northbrook Way, Greenville
Garden of Marian and Tim St.Clair

Marian and Tim St.Clair moved to Greenville in November, 2000. The garden of their new home began to take shape in the spring of 2002 and features three areas: a cottage garden and curb-side beds in front of the home, a formal garden linking living areas at the back of the house with the adjoining landscape, and a woodland walk under large oak and chestnut trees.

Now well into a ten-year plan, the layout of the garden is in place, but construction of structural elements is ongoing and new plants are added each year. Future plans for the formal garden include an entry from the driveway featuring a Carolina Fence Garden, and further development of the potager into a rich and varied kitchen garden.

Marian has a particular interest in garden design, plant combinations, and gardening in harmony with nature. Most plants are deliberately chosen for their color, form or texture, or for their wildlife value.

Marian is a Master Gardener, a Master Naturalist, and a freelance garden writer who contributes a weekly column and monthly features to The Greenville News. Tim is an intellectual property attorney and a partner in the firm Turner, Padget, Graham and Laney. With sons Andrew and Daniel grown, home life is kept lively by antics of two miniature dachshunds, Rudy and Bella.
